Has a change to your work life balance since the start of the recession affected your kids?

I am researching an article on whether work has become more dominant in the past two years, and whether families are suffering as a result. What indications of work/life balance distortion have you noticed, and what have you or can you do to correct it? Please be aware you may be quoted (albeit anonymously) in The Guardian newspaper.

  1. yes we are angrier family now. obama said he would make change we could believe in
  2. In the UK we have seen a massive rise in redundancies-particularly in the financial services sector. This means that a lot of families are breaking under the strain of having to reduce their quality of life and expectations. Children are being taken out of private school and more children are staying at school because there are no jobs. I don't think work life balance will improve- if bread winners lose their jobs they end up depressed and family tensions rise-it's all around at the moment. The early 2000's completely distorted life balance and expectations. More women are going back to work to help out. Because of maternity breaks and taking time out to raise children many women can only get low paid jobs so it's really hard for families in this situation. We are seeing the death of the "yummy mummy" (thank God) they were pretty vacuous anyway.
