Most effective gym work out for someone overweight?

I'm a 22 year old female, 5'5" weighing in at 241.2lbs. I am a large body frame, and I am a "apple" body shape. Most of the fat is on my stomach, and upper back. I have some fat on my inner thighs and some on my upper arms. I've been told that I have a hormone problems and was diagnosed with Poly cystic Ovary Disease, which they told me for now to just take birth control (Desogen) which will help my hormones to balance out. I've been overweight pretty much my whole life, but I noticed once I turned 15 and started having menstrual problems is when I gained weight. The highest I have been is 275lbs. I've been trying to motivate myself to lose the weight, and my long term goal is to reach 155-140lbs, since I have a large body frame, I don't want to look bulky from the top (since I am not bottom thick...not much of a butt and I definitely lack the hips). I just joined 24 about three days ago, and tonight will be my second night going. I am unsure what machines (cardio/weights/etc) to use and how many reps to do and how long to stay or the resistance or weights I should be lifting to start losing the fat. I really really would love to focus on my back and stomach area. Right now I'm a bit tight on cash to afford a personal trainer to show me the ropes, so I would like to save up a little money before I see one. Also I am interested in taking supplements that will help me boost up my metabolism and actually help me lose fat and keep it off...I'm not a big fan of the fad diet pills, so any natural supplements that I could get from the Vitamin Shoppe like Omega 6 or what not? Any websites/you tube videos/articles anyone may want to recommend? Thanks everyone!

  1. eat less. move more. it works. really. you don't need all those things people have to sell. you may not have the money for a trainer, but you should go running! swimming! find something you love that really uses your energy and then go do it! there are lots of foods that help to shed belly fat. I know blueberries do. Get off whatever you're eating that contributes to your weight gain and learn to love your veggies! Make it a daily habit. Set a reasonable, but tough goal to reach. I would suggest running. maybe start off with a half hour a day? or a half mile? You won't meet anyone that runs everyday and is overweight. They don't go together. You may want to listen to your i pod while you run- just make your excercize enjoyable and make it DAILY! you can do it. just don't give up. don't stop. I HAVE FAITH IN YOU! :)
