Why should feminists receive equality if men don't get special treatment and are forced into Selective Service?

From the many articles of crap I've read online, it seems women initally have it easier and men have to fight and speak up get those same types of special privilgences, and don't think I forgot about this new "Selective Serrvice" law where men 18 to 25 are forced to sign up due to coerion by threats of jailtime if they don't, something women don't have to worry about. I believe men who don't join selective service, sure enough, need to work for what they wany, but as for the men who were forced to join against their will all because of their gender, they should receive special treatment even over feminists to balance out the unfairness of having to sign up for slective service, being on the front lines of combat, and going through grueling basic training. If you want true equality, then you should understand that men need rights and privelegdes over women to offset the initial sepcial rights that women get that men don't. If you have ALL of the rights men have but you also keep your special rights for women AND you don't receive all of the responsiblies that men have, such having to sign up for Selective Service, then that's not equality, that's superiority, and such a concept makes me sick to me stomach. If you want equality, then you must BALANCE OUT AND OFFSET things. A man should be able to have all the exact same rights and special priveledges women want other women to have, if you truly advocate true equality between both genders. SInce a man's life is just as important as a woman's life, at least that's what I believe, then you should be wanting other women to be forced into selective service with all the same responsiblies as men have, so that it's fair and equal. True equality means not only all the same rights and responsiblites among both genders, but it also means eliminating Ladies Night, eliminating all-woman gyms like "Curves", and any other perks women have been getting over men. Unless that's done, it's not equality. For you to have all the same rights as men yet not carry all responsiblies as men, and still keep your Ladies Night and gyms like "Cruves", again, that's superiority, not equality. You should be outraged and trying to stop those things. Afterall, women get equaal pay for the exact same job and men face a higher food bill than women do. (If you don't think men should have ANY rights that women can't have, then women are not supposed to have any special priveldges over men, None whatsoever. Only then , is it true equality.) I am also sick and tired of the constant male bashing in the media and the way they make women look better than men at everything. Just look at all those action movies. They look like they could take down Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee both in 10 seconds. It's sexist to constantly promore this. It's insulting to the man. It's not equality, it's sexism, and I think you'd agree.)

  1. I agree with almost all of what you say. I would point out though, that the only feminists arguing for women to be in combat related jobs are those that are too old to go themselves or career military people just interested in quicker promotions. I think that women should have to register and be drafted just like the men, but they should not be put in combat positions. Although there are a few exceptions, women do not have the mental of the physical toughness to do the jobs that require combat as their main duty.
  2. New????? You think selective service is New? Dude...that started long long time like pre 40's. Get the civilian dip snits in congress to give women equal rights in the military...and then we can worry about the issue of selecitive services kinda a mute point as women can't be in "combat" positions and they Only draft for "combat" positions. and really I got to say as a female member of the US military and veteran of this damn war...the whiny civilian males complaining about having to sign their names to piece of paper is just bloody pathetic and old.
  3. I didn't make it through your whole post, but that sounds like a good idea, have everyone required to register. But I would make it some kind of national service, not necessarily the military. I'm not worried about absolute equality in things that are based on freedom of association. So if a club wants to have only men, only women, only seniors, only Asians, whatever, I don't care.
  4. Short answer: Yes, we don't have true equality yet. Women have struggled for equality and would tell you that they still aren't treated as "equals". Having said that, there are still inequalities that sway on both sides of this debate. Take a spin around any "family law" courts. Equality indeed!
  5. Oh steve. Grow up. They're not taking ONE NICKEL out of your pocket. Here's a thought. STOP READING "ARTICLES"!!!
  6. I agree with your Selective Service proposal (even though its 40+ years old), but I think you better go read more crap as far as everything else goes.
  7. This is an American issue, not a universal one. Decent, hard working women see the unfairness of the situation, but ardent feminists are truly "female chauvinist pigs." They want "special" rules -- never *true* equality. I am very impressed with the voluntary service people I have met, But, in 2010, a male would have to be an idiot to accept a *compulsory* system that demands he fight to protect women, who make up more than half the population, but need not serve. There are both illegal and legal actions that can be taken. Don't get me wrong. If you're a guy and you wanna be a hero and say, "I will fight for them, if drafted" - that's okay. You have the right to be a jerk. 'Better you than me. Sadly, history has always ground up people like that, like chop meat, in the name of some popular cause...
  8. 1....The Selective Service law, is not new. 2....The Selective Service law is sexist against women, not men. It's women who are being excluded from the Selective Service..men are not being excluded..Being excluded based on gender is sexist...see how that works?
  9. It is not women who are keeping women out of either the Selective Service, or some combat roles in the military. In the U.S., it is men. Men who don't believe women are worthy to be given even an honest opportunity to prove their ability. (And keeping women on the slow track for promotion does play into it.) So, my answer would be, to the little of this that was coherent: Yes, if there ever was to be another draft, both men and women should be called to serve. But flailing at women about this is absurd. You need to take this to the "military" section on here, and duke the subject out with the men there about why they would riot and mutiny if women were allowed the same professional opportunities as they are. (It's a complicated question. Reading an article won't cut it there.) On the rest of it, you are seriously ill-informed. Stop reading articles by idiots and start doing your own research. Pay attention to your sources, where they come from, who they're associated with, if you care anything about the truth. Oh, and if you think there aren't all-male gyms, you are very ignorant there, also. And "ladies nights" are promotional events put on by businesses to increase revenue. If you are anti-capitalist, by all means, get active trying to pass fascist laws that tell business owners they can't use effective promotions because it robs you of a free drink.
  10. I'm going to assume that you are talking about US laws, society, and customs. You need to get your facts straight, sonny boy. Feminists have ALWAYS opposed a military draft and registration that applies to only one sex, and we've always agitated for the right of women to serve in combat. The laws and regulations and customs that prohibit women from registering for the draft and serving in combat were enacted and put into place by MEN, not women. As it happens, right now Selective Service registration is only registration. There is no draft, currently, of men or women. I would prefer to see SS registration eliminated entirely. Instead, there should be a draft of those who vote for war, or if they're too old, then their family members can be drafted...without exemptions. Someone else said to go into the Military section of Y!A and talk about women in combat roles. I also advise this. There, you will see Manly Men shudder, turn pale, and faint at the very idea of women in combat. They will tell you that they could not cope with having female comrades in arms. I think that eventually, we will have female fighters...but we're going to have to have all female squads at first, because the men can't cope with the idea of us soft dainty wimmins being able to kill. Right now, there are a lot of females in the military, and they are in the combat zone, but they aren't allowed (by the men who enacted the laws) to be in a combat role...or get combat pay and promotions. Women, by the way, get the same "grueling" basic training that men do. Do you really think that joining Curves is a special privilege? Like sports bars, and ladies' night, it's a marketing ploy. It's meant to draw a certain sex in...ladies' night, incidentally, is not meant to favor women...it's meant to draw them in, and attract men with the promise of lots of women, most of them not really sober. If you don't like male bashing in the media, then don't watch it. Better yet, get into the media yourself and write or act in or promote shows that show true equality. I'd be interested in what special rights and privileges you think that women get, other than being exempt from having to register with Selective Service. When you read stuff online, remember that any fool with an internet connection can write an article and put it up online...and many fools do. There are some good articles online, but there are also a great many articles that are posted by people with an axe to grind. You need to look at primary sources, and peer-reviewed studies. You can do this at your local library. You sound pretty young, so you're probably not even in college yet. If and when you get into college, you will learn how to do proper research, and how to tell a good study from a bad one. You should have already learned about primary sources in high school English, when you had to do a term paper.
