I still don't really know what I want to be when I grow up, I'm not an average girl.?
I'm a 16 year old girl and in high school. I'm really into cars. My passion is racing and auto mechanics. My other passion is singing and performing in my metal band. I'm also a die-hard gamer. I wanna be a video game designer/singer/racer/mechanic. I can't do all of them. And there are no colleges that have courses for all of those interests I have. It sucks. And my mother says that being an auto mechanic isn't much of a job. They don't get paid much, And you don't get praised for your work. Then my mom also says that being a singer is hard. Cuz it's really rare to get a record deal, and that's the only successful way to make money when you're a singer/screamer. Game design is really cool. I'm not gonna lie I'm really into that. But that could have it's flaws too. And racing is self-explanatory. You don't get big unless you're an amazing driver. Any help you can offer would be great! Thanks.

- I'm 56 years old and I never knew what I wanted to be either and I still don't. Its just that they haven't come up with a job that I would like yet.
- I am 35 and still dont know. I sell real estate now. the key to life is to find a job you love so getting paid is really a bonus.
- I'm the say way. I have so many things I want to do when I am older, but I cant do them all. And it can be really hard. But I just gave it time. Have patience. It will adventually come to you. Also pray about it. God will help you. And do what you like to do. Even if it means taking a huge risk, go for it. Who knows, it might turn out to be really great. Hope I helped.
- What about mechanical engineering? you get to work on design, you can work night shifts and try during days and weekends to get a record deal and you might be able to work in the automotive industry?
- your never to old to goto college, remember that. maybe try engineering for design of cars or something along that line, and later in life try video game design...or vise versa...you can have more then one career in your life...dont settle for something if your not happy...and never give up that drive for anything or anyone (unless you have a child, which means be extra careful not to get one, not the childs fault you might be a workaholic or over zealous) good luck and dont rush yourself...enjoy being a teenager...goes by waaaaaaaaay to fast!!!!
- Mechanics have a sure income and make decent pay. Everyone in society has a car (not literally), and all cars will need fixing eventually. Work for some mainstream mechanic company like midas or something and you'll be fine. As for video games, there's alot of colleges that offer computer classes and graphic designing, your just half as$ing your search looking for colleges and pursuing your goals I think. Racer and Mechanic's I believe are aprentenship more than college, so you probably wont find many colleges that give college courses, but you can find courses related to game designing fairly easy. As for singing, I don't much about it. In my opinion though, only the talented really make it.
- The British have what they call a "gap-year", where you're not supposed to go to college until you've spent a year on your own "in the real world". And I don't mean loafing in your parent's basement, like I wound up spending the 3 months between high-school and college. Take a gap-year and see if your metal band can become a hit.
- Auto mechanics, if they are good, make a LOT of money. Other trades do, as well--your mother is misinformed. There are apprenticeship positions that pay (in today's dollars) over $50,000 a year when you complete a certain number of hours. Look on the department of labor website in your state. There should be apprenticeship information. You will need good math skills, a little physics and good hand-eye coordination. I say go for it!!
- I know a couple of auto mechanics and they make GREAT money. And as someone else said, they are secure jobs. You can go to a trade school or a specialized program and be on your way to a career in this. You may have to start out at a lower salary, but believe me, you will earn an excellent income. You can get in with a company and earn awesome benefits, too-I know someone who works for a major company and he has the best benefits, including stock and pensions. Definitely look into it. I agree that being a singer is a hard career to find, but you can always sing on the side (weekends, events). Game design is going to be another field that will be hard to break into, but you can always take classes while you work as a mechanic. You will find your way! :)
