I am an 18 y/o male about to graduate highschool looking for a future career in sales. Where/how to start?
I am pretty much financially on my own. I want to grow up to live a successful life. The only thing is I have not done well in high school. I realize now that i should of tried harder and now I am trying to turn my life around. I want to start a career in sales but I don't really know how or where to start. - Ignore anyone who disagrees with this....... Full time retail at a place that is 100% commission. This will give you bragging rights later, "If I did not sell, I did not eat". Then PT while you goto school. Retail stinks but the experience is good. IF you can not find commission think: Radio Shack, Sears, Best Buy - whatever. You will learn: Action selling, relationship building, general information about the sales cycle, selling non-tangible products(extended service), customer service, closing, possibly management, operating databases, data entry, cross selling, inventory, some loss prevention, some scheduling, f2f sales, some phone sales, how to do needs based analysis, commitment to work bad hours... All kinds of things that will look good on a resume.
