  1. The Dark Cold Of Interstellar Space BA: I'll choose the lyrics to the song Simple Man = Lynyard Skynard(Makes me think of my son) BA2: Fade to Black - Metallica "Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye."
  2. I like some of both. I think it depends on what mood I'm in, but there's a limit to how many dark lyrics I can listen to without some happy ones to break up the gloom. For example, I like Tool but it's hard for me to listen to Aenima all the way through in one sitting. The lyrics are so dark and angry they start to bring me down after a while. BQ1: "You've Made Me So Very Happy" by Blood, Sweat, and Tears BQ2: "Angel Down" by Fairchild
  3. The Dark Cold Of Interstellar Space? Definitely dark/sad
  4. 'The Dark Cold Of Interstellar Space'... i like the sound of that :) i suppose i like all 'art' darker; literature, art, music, film etc... not really sure why, i'm generally a very 'upbeat' person lol! i guess i just got bored of 'Happy Puffy Rainbows'... though i don't mind them once in a while ;) ... i suppose in real life i actively seek 'happy'... but in my escapism i choose the 'dark' side... bq: "All the ducks are swimming in the water... fal de ral de ral do!" (i couldn't think of anything that didn't sound totally cheesy lol! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G89aIQDlbB4 bq2: "Love will save you... but it won't save me..." ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZp7-QoLmMA ... i love all the lyrics to this tune :)
  5. I listen to alot of darker songs. Sometimes happy songs but I feel that darker songs have more meaning in them. BQ: "For the child, for the light, For the heart I once had, I'll believe and foresee, Everything I could ever be," from For The Heart I Once Had by Nightwish. BQ2: "Alone we die, my frozen angel, Alone we fade away from this world, Nothing I do, nothing I say Fade away, My angel!!!!!!," from Frozen Angel by Norther.
  6. Good evening Darth :) Funny you should ask this now, as just this morning I was watching a programme about the origins of British Heavy Metal bands, and there is a clip of Ozzy Osbourne singing "...love grows where my Rosemary goes..." and then humming the riff to 'Paranoid' and saying "Those sort of lyrics just don't fit with the music...". Anyway... I have never subscribed to the 'happy puffy rainbows and kittens' school of lyrics {another clip from the programme: when talking about the fact that Metal is more of a male genre, Bruce Dickinson mentioned that "girls tend to prefer Miley Cirus, whereas guys like Metal. Oh well...". I disagree!}. I do enjoy 'dark and scary' in the right context and if I like the song as a whole {Type O Negative, Cornerstone, etc}. But I do also like 'upbeat and happy' in a more general life way {Fleetwood Mac, Jethro Tull, Dire Straits - nothing 'fluffy'!}. I also like the lyrics that fall between the two, sort of 'introspective and maudlin'. BQs : Sorry, too many {especially for #2} to single out any right now!
  7. Well most of my music has darker lyrics. This doesn't mean I listen to death metal. But Leonard Cohen for example, or Elliott Smith. It's all pretty dark and maybe also a bit depressing. That's just the way I like it. BA2: ''When they clean the streets, I'll be the only sh*t that's left behind.'' (from Eliott Smith's Rose Parade) and ''Remember I will always love you, as I claw your f*cking throat away. It will end no other way.'' (from Tool's Pushit) I also love the Leonard Cohen song ''Chelsea Hotel #2'', where he spends the whole song singing about a romance he had with a woman, how he remembers her at the Chelsea Hotel....and in the end he sings ''That's all I don't even think of you that often.''
