How would you measure evolutionary success? Based on your measurement, which have been the most successful?

How would you measure evolutionary success? Based on your measurement, which have been the most successful organism throughout time? (Please answer scientifically based on evolutionary values) Thanks in advance. Thank you so much for the community's help.

  1. Mitochondria Measurement should be pretty self-explanatory.
  2. Defining success is difficult. Longevity (non-extinction)? Weight of numbers? Total mass? For longevity of existence -probably viruses. They have been in existence before there was cellular life, and they are still here. There are more of them than anything else - even bacteria have viruses. By sheer bulk, the bacteria would outweigh all other life forms.By any standard humans can not yet be considered successful. We have only been here a few million years, much less than the 200 million that the dinosaurs were around. We don't outnumber rats or mice, so we can't use that as a measure. We would have to wait a few more million years to see how successful we are. Another way to look at evolutionary success is from a genetic point of view. what genes have been retained throughout all the existence of life on Earth? Possibly the genes responsible for converting ATP to ADP, giving energy? Or some other energy pathway. Not my field, I'm afraid. .
