Success Happy

What key sounds light and happy on the piano?

I am taking lessons and my teacher wants me to compose a piece that sounds lighter and happy. I specialize in heavy dark pieces (Aminor anyone?) I just want a key that sounds "happy" and any advise on creating a song that is lighter.

  1. G Major is a happy kinda light-hearted key. Its also pretty calming. If you want a bright key I would go with A Major but it can feel a little heavy to me but its still very bright and happy :) Good Luck~
  2. E. ... but I'm not convinced about the whole "happy key" v. "sad key" argument. More so the modes or progressions.
  3. for one, write in a major key. E flat or G is good. or the Lydian mode. stay away from Aeolian
  4. well chordes up high are nice like an Am chord
  5. This is completely subjective, and more to do with how you use your musical resources than the key. I would suggest listening to music that sounds light and happy to you, and ignoring the key while listening out for what the composer/s do with the music. That being said, I hear G major through E major (i.e. G, D, A, and E) as being fairly light and happy, but they can sound otherwise depending on the musical content.
