How do I escape from Marijuana's tight grasp?

I'm seventeen, and I just want to stop smoking. However, I'm around it more than I'd like to be and that makes letting it go even more challenging. Not to mention, it's practically all my friends are involved in these days. I've got to get away. I've got to rid myself of this substance. I've got to regain control in my life. I want to lead a happy and successful life, and I know smoking is only going to make this even more difficult.

  1. I'm going to call BS on this because marijuana isn't very addictive and this is in Men's Health. If you ARE addicted, find another hobby to fill the space left my marijuana or something.
  2. Change your friends. Hard to do, try this method. It worked for me. Stop buying pot. Smoke with your friends. After a while, you get to become known as a leach and people dont want you around because you buy no pot and just smoke theirs. Works great!
  3. Find yourself a better class of friends. Just because they do it doesn't mean you have to do it.
  4. Well, sadly, first you probably should cease all contact with friends who are smokers. Then, you should take up a hobby to keep your mind off it. Maybe photography, go around and take pictures of nature. It might help.
  5. I would say you need to remove yourself from the situations that include marijuana. If your friends are smoking marijuana, dont hang out with them. Dont go to places where people are smoking marijuana. Marijuana is not chemically addictive, so its all up to you to make the decision and lifestyle changes that are necessary to stop using.
  6. I know many successful people who smoke.. i guess it depend on you. do you like smoking it? if you do learn to control it. smoke as a social thing, but if is affecing ur life quit! or your doing so you dont feel left out? if you are make new friends and stay away from it. my advice just stay away from it. get good grades and become the successful person u wish to be.. goodluck
  7. I'm 16, and I've been smoking since the age of 9; However, I stopped when I was 15 cold turkey for 5 months. It's really easy to quit smoking marijuana, its just all about will-power. All of my friends smoke, and even when I quit for 5 months for no reason, my friends were smoking around me all the time. You just have to remove yourself from the area until they are done. It's hard for the first 2 weeks, but after that you should be fine, because you feel like you're on a roll. You feel like you've already gone this far, its not that hard to continue, and really, you don't need it. It's all mental, it's not like crack or cocaine and other drugs where you go through with-drawl, Yes, I still smoke, but I know that I'm in control of myself and everything I do, and I could quit forever if I wanted to, but I don't. You on the other hand, you feel like you want to quit, which is good! You're already on a good start, now you just have to do the work. There were many many many times during those 5 months when my friends and others would ask me to hit it, and I just told them I quit. It makes you feel good about yourself. I did it, you could, too.
