when people say happy birthday to you on facebook do you say thanks?

Its my birthday and Im getting loads of posts on my wall from people i know, but don't really talk to much and my friends. Saying happy birthday. Do i comment saying thanks to them all or do i take it for granted :O ?

1. I'd be tempted to respond to ppl i know who have written more than a standard 'happy birthday' and write a nice personal msg saying thanks. To the rest of the ppl that are not really real-life friends, i wouldn't write anything except maybe a general 'thanks' update on your page for all the well wishers.
2. Say thanks, because they mean well. I mean, I say happy birthday to other people, and I get sorta pissed that they don't reply because 'they only reply to friends'. Jesus, they need to get out of their freaking bubble and stop being so ignorant. Sheesh.
