A guy says he wants her to be successful regardless of their relationship?

Been dating a guy for about 5 months. He says he doesnt really know what he wants out of the relationship, but he said regardless of what should happen between us he will never hurt me or mislead me. He did want to make it known that "he wants me to be successful regardless of what should happen with our relationship? What's that mean? He is 40s/me 30s

1. I don't think this is necessarily a bad comment, but it might be a bit early in the relationship to be able to thoroughly interpret what he meant. On the one hand, it sounds kind hearted....on the other hand, it seems like he would say something along the lines of, "And in your future success I would like to be right there by your side". Regardless, I would take him at his word when he says he would never mislead your nor hurt you. Relax and enjoy!!
