University is not required to be successful?

i have never been to uni and never will, some of my friends went and now cannot find work and are saddled with student debt before they even begin the journey through life, it is irrelevant that you only pay the debt off when you earn over X amount because debt is debt and has to be paid back eventually, they are not happy people ether they spent all there money on beers and good times, this is all well and good but it doesn't pay your bills in future years, so to me its a pointless excuse.......i started my business and now earn exceptional money even during recession all from my own mind without university education.......so why do so many people regard UNI as the be all and end all of life......??? by the time my friends find work ill be so much further down the line financially and my long term future is already secure...........so what is the point of uni?? i think its over rated massively.....views please????

  1. I highly recommend university, good degrees will increase your chance of sucsess greatly. Maybe your friends just got 1st degrees and didnt do masters and doctorships.
  2. Interesting how you put a question mark at the end of a statement. You or someone like you keep posting this view on university every other week. Just because a few didn't do well right after school doesn't mean it's a bad choice for everyone. That's the same argument of the morons who think vaccines should be stopped because 1 out 20 million get sick from the vaccine. When millions would die without the vaccines.
  3. I don't think that you can generalise most university experiences like this. Fair enough you're doing well now, but I think that depends on the individual. It's proven that University graduates will earn more in their life time than people who didn't go to university. A degree opens up much more job opportunities and someone with a degree is more likely to succeed in obtaining a specific job than say someone who hasn't got a degree. Yes, I can understand where you are coming from. University = debt and not a guaranteed job at the end of it all. But I think it's down to the individual as to whether university is a good or bad thing.
