how chickens do i need to farm to be a successful chicken farmer?

1. That depends on whether you are raising them for meat or eggs. You might need a minimum of 60,000 or more.
2. commercial egg farming i.e. "factory farms" break even at roughly 900,000 chickens. Significantly less for "premium" eggs such as "free range" and "cage free" chicken eggs.
