Why are money and success so important to people and all that matters in life?

They don't care about anything but money and success, and turn evil and nasty to get it, and use it to make themselves look good/powerful to go on and be evil/nasty to others. this world is just a huge whole money/success game, and that's for whatever reason THE most important thing to people, and ALL that matters in life. more than human life, more than anything. that's our god apparently.
