How do I become happy and excited about life?

I haven't felt happy or excited about life or school or anything I am doing in a long time. What are some ways I can bring up my mood and thoughts?

  1. Take a vacation! Have a spa day! Hike with friends! Just do things that make you happy, be with people you haven't seen in a while, go through old pictures, just live the way you have always wanted to live!
  2. You're doing the right thing just by asking the question. On the whole I think the human mind comes pre wired to persevere. You don't need to find any magic reason to keep on truckin as it were. Mainly you just need to identify and eliminate your habits of thought that are depressing your mood. People sometimes don't realize their own motives for thinking the way they do is what I mean. For example sometimes people obsess on unimportant things that bring them down, the only outcome being that they can then feel sorry for themselves. Just keep asking yourself what's important.
  3. Not being a doctor or therapist but via many life experiences what you're describing sounds like you might be dealing with a mood disorder like depression. Check out emotions anonymous online and see what you think, you can also pick up a book at the library called Feeling Good by David Burns, M.D. It's re CBT; cognitive behavioral therapy and how to turn around the way you interpret and look at things so as to feel better. It has to be done diligently but it works. You might also try to locate a good therapist to help initially. To locate a good therapist places like emotions anonymous meetings are helpful.
