Is it emo to cut a happy face into your arm?

I have a friend named cody. He thinks he is emo BUT HE IS NOT! He tried proving to us that he is emo by carving a happy face into his right arm the next day. Would this be considered emo? Technically this is emo but because its a happy face it confuses me.

1. If he were really emo he would have cut a sad face into his arm, then he would have said you didn't understand him.

4. hes probably trying to get attention by saying he's emo then cutting himself to make everyone thinks its true but make them thinks its weird that its a happy face like what your feeling now =)
5. Emo isn't a style or when someone cuts them self. It is a type of music and is said to have originated into a trend. Self harm doesn't prove anything, just that maybe he needs help.
6. sounds like he's DEEPLY disturbed!! anyone that does that need's mental help!! alot of kids are doing that.. very attention seeking.. just my opinion.. and who the "F***" is EMO??
7. um cutting yourself for the hell of it and cutting yourself because you are depresses is different. he would be emo if he cut himself because he was depressed, not becasue he wanted to prove a point/ have a smiley on his arm.
8. It is emo to cut yourself , but you are correct. It is kinda half-half because arn't emo kids suppose to be sad or not SMILEY all the time? idk that is just what i think.
