If you were a business owner of a small store, and work very hard to make this store successful?
As the owner, what might you do to prevent and detect the infiltration of organized crime into your business?

- Shoot anyone from New Jersey who walks through the door.
- If you sell stock, then make certain that you keep 60%, and do extensive background checks on anyone who buys it. Know who you're doing business with and give them the boot if they send up red flags. If you can do so legally, don't let just anyone buy stock. Keep it with people you know and trust. Get a top of the line security system and USE IT. If you get anything that appears to be an offer from organized crime to do business, go to the police AND the media. Do extensive background checks on everyone that you hire. If they have any family ties to organized crime whatsoever, don't hire them. If anyone so much as drops a hint that they might do your business/employees or self harm, file a peace bond or restraining order against them and make sure to let the police know if you get any suspicion that they've broken it. I personally would require or at least try to encourage all of my employees to get concealed weapons permits and carry guns at work, even offer to pay for it. You probably can't require them to, but it doesn't hurt to try to talk them into it, especially if the store is in a bad neighborhood or a dangerous line of work like a convenience store. If you get any hint whatsoever that an employee may be in organized crime, hire a PI to check them out. Be loud and obnoxious when it come to organized crime and offers from them. They don't like being pushed into the limelight. If they know that you'd go to the press if they try to buy you, they may just pass you over and move on to the next business owner. Research organized crime as much as your finances will allow. There are tons of books on the subject. Also maybe try college textbooks on criminology. You can buy them used online. If you live in a city with the Guardian Angels, maybe make a donation to them and see what you can do to help their cause out. The Guardian Angels are an anti-gang gang. They do things like ride subway cars and beat up muggers, teach self defense to neighborhood kids, and patrol streets and intervene when they see someone being mugged, harassed, etc. Lastly, absolutely never, for any reason, think that you can't fight back if organized crime tries to mess with you. They THRIVE on that. I hope this helps.
