How can I wish happy birthday to my ex-boyfriend today?

I still really care about him; we went out for 14 months (he was my first real boyfriend) and he went away to college. I want to say something personal but nothing that will make him think that I need him, you know? And something that will stand out from everyone else's birthday wishes. Thank you! :)
