How To Be Successful In A Bad School, To Have A Successful Life, And Go To A Good College?
Public Comments
- You can do it. In fact, if you can succeed and do well despite your bad school, that looks really good to colleges. But in order to do that, you need to kind of put blinders on. You can't let yourself get distracted by the environment around you. You need to focus on your studies as your #1 thing. If you're interested in college, then work hard in your classes, and talk to all your teachers about your college goals. Get them on your side. And if you need help in your classes, work with your teachers to get that help. Sometimes, in a bad school, you need to be extra driven in this way - you need to make your teachers take the time with you. But thing is, if you try to do that, the teachers often respond really positively. When they know you really are interested and want to learn, they'll help you do that. If you keep your grades up, and do well on the SATs, you can get into a fine college.
- If you are an intelligent person, and do well in your classes, and get good ACT/SAT scores...you will get into colleges. Its important to take the SAT, ACT, and apply for Financial Aid, have your parents help you fill out the FAFSA. And apply to as many colleges as you want. Write meaningful entrance essays and personal statements and you'll get in.
- Be realistic. If you like to study and you're passionate about being a doctor or a lawyer, than you can definitely make good use of college. If you're just gonna go to college so you can major in English or History, then don't bother to go. Those degrees cost money. Tuition rates keep going up and many kids are getting into student loan debts of $30,000-$50,000 and more. That's a lot and can take decades to pay off. You need to make sure that if you go to college, you'll be able to make enough money to pay off the loans, and with a lot of jobs out there, unfortunately, they're not paying a lot. There's too many people with college degrees right now, and that's just makes it harder to find a good-paying job. A lot of recent college grads are making $14 an hour which even in those cases means they'll be working to pay back their loans. There are some college grads that are $7 an hour and some that are unemployed in this economy. Focus on what job you want to have if you really have a goal. Not just the college degree diploma. A college degree diploma doesn't guarantee a job or that you'll be successful. In order to be successful, you just need to be free from debt, have a stable job and hopefully be able to buy an apartment or something and have money saved up. YOu can work at McDonald's and be successful if you live within your means (don't spend more htan you make).
