How do you get copies of legal marriage records in India?

I have reason to believe my husband has been married in India after we were married (we remain married currently). I have a copy of the Election Commissioner's voter list showing him as married to another woman and living in the same household. It's my understanding that these voter lists often are not accurate. How can I find out if the marriage was registered and get a copy of that registration?

2. Yes sometimes the Election Commission Voter's card/list mention wrong name or relationship about the voter. The Voter card and List in Indian is usually mentioning the name,father's name,age sex and address of the voter along with voter number. There is no mention of man's marital status or name of his wife but only mention of name of her husband in case of woman voter. (I have complete list of Election Commission Voter's List of my area where I live and confirmed these details from it). As far the record of registration of marriage is concerned that can be checked with the Registrar of Marriages of the District in India where the parties to marriage reside or /and got married. This is a Public Record open for inspection on certain terms and conditions. A certified copies of the record be obtained on payment. Registration of marriage is a proof of marriage no doubt about it, but it is not a proof of VALID marriage, the validity of marriage has to be proved by evidence of essential marriage ceremonies that took place between the parties. The non registration of Hindu Marriage does not invalidate it and hence it is not yet compulsory for the validity of any Hindu marriage to register it in-spite of the recommendation of the Supreme Court of India to the various State governments in India to make it compulsory to register all marriages being solemnized in the State irrespective of the religion of the parties.
