I am currently 23 years old and I was walking in my neighborhood the other day and became very depressed when a question came to mind. I rent an apartment in a fairly nice neighborhood for my city/town and was taking a stroll around the subdivision and I started noticing everyone's houses and vehicles. In my neighborhood almost every property seems to be very nice. They are multi-storied houses with beautiful landscaping and parked in front of them are multiple newer nice vehicles. Im not talking anything extravagant, but $200 - $450,000 houses with $35-$60,000 dollar vehicles. Some had boats or Jet Skis in the yard. Mediocre to some but to me this would be a great feeling to have accomplished. I understand that not everyone lives like this but and to have this sort of ownership seems almost unfeasible to me and I was just wondering how people become successful enough to afford nice things like this. I have worked since I was 13 and know what it means to earn a dollar. I have graduated from a technical school with an associates degree in computer networking but so far I have only been able to land a job making $10/ hour part-time in a Network Operations Center near my home town. Before that I was a shift manager at Taco Bell making around $8.50/hour. So as I'm walking around and noticing this the question came to mind if I was ever going to be able to afford nice things like this. Then I started wondering what it is that these people do in their daily life to be able to afford nice things like this. Are they really more intelligent than I am? Are they doing something that I most likely couldn't do? I understand these people are much older than I am but some not too much older maybe but ten years, Some much more. But as I walk around I fear never to have the accomplishments of just this mediocre neighbor hood and it highly upsets me. I understand money is not everything in life but i would just love to one day have ownership of the lifestyle of these people. Im not shooting for riches but even mediocrity seems far fetched for me. I am not sure how many people my age are worrying about things like this but I know that it doesnt just happen overnight and would like to know what it is people do for a living. Answers to this question could be what maybe you do for a living and how did you get to where you are today or just simple discussion. Any response is appreciated. So my current answers I have received are not really what I am looking for. It surprises me people take time out of there day to waste others time. To answers jf's question my notion of success would include having a great kid and good friends as a success but I would like to do be able to do more than own a starter home and used vehicles. Is mediocrity really that hard to achieve?
