Are smartphones really worth it? Do they really help improve your personal/work life balance?

I am considering purchasing either the Blackberry Pearl or T Mobile Dash. Do these things make much of a diffierence in your opinion?

  1. I have a Treo650 and it helps immensely. It is probably the best single item I've ever purchased. I'm time and organizationally challenged, so I've used Palms for about 10 years. Combining a cell phone with the Palm just made things even better. It's one place for all of my information, whether that's the address book, the calendar, notes, grocery list, etc. I like the Treo's better than the others because it can use any Palm software created and there is a LOT out there. Since the Palm OS has been around for about 10 years, someone has probably written a program to do what you want. The real key is not how much software comes with the Palm/Blackberry/Dash device but how much their user community has written. My personal favorite is Directory Assistant. Type in a part of the name of a person or business you are looking. It will display a list of matches; their telephone numbers and addresses; allow you to add this to your address book; and open up a map on Mapquest to that location.
