Success Happy

Is it normal for someone to be excessively happy a few days after attempting to kill themselves?

A person I know is currently like this, and I am wondering just as to why. He had gone two and a half days without water or food he lost fifteen pounds yesterday. and yesterday (was 102 degrees) he went for a run/walk for twenty miles on the highway with the intention of dying from heat stroke or dehydration. He had passed out twice on the road and just stopped. Now today he is just really "happy go lucky." BQ: Why would someone want to torture themselves like that?

  1. It is normal to bounce back from something like that. Suicide by highway dehydration is a new one. Interesting.
  2. I don't believe this is normal at all that your friend wants to punish himself like that. He may have had second thoughts that put him in a upbeat manic phase, but I wouldn't trust it....the urge will most likely return. Is there any way you can encourage this person to seek help from a relative or mental health professional. There are countless reasons why people do things like this...maybe you can find out what's behind it all for this guy.
