What have been some successful impulsive decisions in history?
Exactly what the title says. There have been many unsuccessful impulsive decisions but what were some successful ones? I'm a liberal and I have to say Obama hasn't been much of a success and neither was the vote impulsive more than it was widely spread advertisement. Completely forgot about Seward's purchase thanks.

- Louisiana Purchase and the Iraq WAr...
- The Civil War
- Gavrilo Princip impulsively stopped for a bite to eat after chickening out the first time he had a chance to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand. By coincidence the Archduke's car stopped just outside the cafe, and Princip took advantage of his second chance. He succeeded in his mission, so I guess that was a success. But he ended up being arrested, beaten so severely he lost an arm, then died in prison. And then his country Serbia got owned by Austria-Hungary during WWI, resulting in hundreds of thousands killed. So I guess "success" might not be the right word... I would bet that many scientific discoveries have been the result of impulsive thinking. Oh, I finally thought of a real one: Rosa Parks refusing to give up her seat on the bus.

- Sewards purchase of Alaska from Russia wasn't necessarily impulsive but everyone thought he was crazy but we bought it anyway. The gold alone that was harvested in Alaska more than paid for it.
